MINPAKU:nouveau marche

Welcome to our charming MINPAKU nestled in the heart of Niichiba, just a stone’s throw away from the historic Katori Shrine and the picturesque Edo town of Sawara. Immerse yourself in the rich tapestry of Japan’s past as you explore the quaint streets lined with traditional machiya houses and whispering willow trees.

Nouveau Marché is a French translation of “Niichiba”which literally means new
market and derives from the address of this property. Our MINPAKU offers a blend of modern comfort and traditional aesthetics, providing a tranquil retreat for travelers seeking an authentic Japanese experience.

Relax in our cozy tatami rooms, savoring the serene ambiance that permeates every corner.
Step outside and discover the beauty of Sawara, where time seems to stand still amidst ancient temples, wooden bridges, and bustling riverside markets. Delight in local delights, from savory street food to handcrafted souvenirs, as you stroll through this living museum of Edo period architecture.

Sawara, a merchant town with a history of 600 years of development through its advantageous location near the Tone River since the Edo period, still retains its traditional streetscape where you can enjoy the Edo atmosphere as an important group of traditional buildings.

Among them, you can enjoy seasonal events such as the float festivals in summer and autumn, and the iris festival of Sawara’s waterside, which have been preserved for 300 years. Moreover, in a quiet old private house surrounded by temples and shrines such as Jizoin, you can experience serenity away from everyday life, just a 1-minute walk from
Jizoin and a 4-minute walk from the main shrine of Katori Shrine, the head shrine of about 400 Katori shrines throughout Japan.
